Don’t make that mistake
Don’t assume your dreams are your own
They do not belong to you
They draw breath and become flesh and pulse with life
But it does not have to be yours
I saw some hope in you, and stopped to take a chance
I took a leap of faith and challenge you to take your own
You can stand at your ledge for years
By the time you’re ready to jump
I’ll have moved on
Your dreams will come true for someone else if not for you
Grey suits and black socks and brown briefcases
Gym bags with corporate logos and
paper cups with perforated insulation
you get to Friday night and wonder what happened.
GI Joe used to carry your lunch
Matchbox cars under the porch, dirt under your fingernails
You used to be the hero of every dinner time story
Now you’re just another face in the office kitchen
Smooth wooden floors in a yoga studio all morning
Steamy baths in the afternoon instead of lunch
board room meetings with more presentations
one more bullet point one more budget dollar
Your maltese with the pink studded collar
whose at doggie day care with friends all day
your only company at home
I don’t mind carrying you for awhile
Hold tight, My wings are strong enough for you
Get used to flying high cause someday soon
I’ll let you go to find your own way home
